Snow Domes Winter Campaign Case Study – Snow Victoria

Snow Victoria is an organisation that curates all the best winter locations and activities in and around Victoria, Australia.

For this campaign, we captured the amazing snow domes that visitors can stay in located in the picturesque Victorian Alps at Mt Hotham.

Here’s a little snapshot of the filming process.

The Snow

A couple words come to mind when thinking of how to describe the filming experience of this campaign – epic and eventful!

The record-breaking snow fall created a very winter wonderland atmosphere but also made physically getting around from place to place with gear in-tow a very interesting challenge.

We were up against long shoot days, with early starts, and had to consider how we were to get around with our crew.

Sometimes the only option we had to get to a location was via a chairlift or snow bus (not always at our disposal). Therefore, we had to make sure to factor in timing and a busy schedule in order to capture all the content we were after.

Talent and Crew

Ensuring our talent remained presentable, warm and safe, through a snow storm and shooting also had it’s challenges as snow is effectively rain! The cast would have been soaked if they were not in correct snow outfits for any aesthetic shots in the snow or if they were out in the elements for too long.

We also had to make sure the crew was dressed warm enough in order to man equipment for long periods of time (beards helped!).

Equipment

When we went from exterior snowy environments to heated indoor rooms, we had to consider the effects on the gear. Camera lenses can fog with the change of climate, so we were cautious of our equipment when we moved locations.

The Snow Dome

When we got to shooting the snow dome we managed to get everything on our shot list and more, including a beautiful pink sunset and morning sunrise.

Even with all the challenges of a shoot like this, we had such an unforgettable time shooting and can’t wait to get back up to the mountains again!
